From Neighbourhood Roots to a National Landmark: Brera at the National Gallery

If you had told me years ago that Bakery Brera would one day find a home within the National Gallery Singapore — a place known for its sweeping art collections, quiet marble halls, and the weight of history — I would never have imagined it possible.

But here we are.
From neighbourhood warmth at Empress Road… to a national cultural landmark.

And in many ways, this new chapter was shaped by the relationships and collaborations that have carried us forward — including our meaningful partnership with Blue Bottle Coffee. Working with their team rekindled my joy for coffee, reminded me of the beauty of pairing flavours thoughtfully, and connected me with passionate baristas who treat their craft with the same respect we give to pastry. Their encouragement even led me to invest in a La Marzocco machine and step more intentionally into the world of coffee.

So when the opportunity came for Brera to open at the National Gallery, it felt like a natural extension of everything we’d been learning — about hospitality, community, and creating spaces that bring comfort to people from all walks of life.

A Quiet, Calming Space in a Grand Setting

This new café is intentionally stripped back — soft beige walls, warm wooden tables, gentle lighting, and window seats perfect for slow mornings. It’s a place where you can step out of an art exhibition and straight into a counter lined with flaky croissants, warm tarts, and a comforting cup of coffee.

To all our Gallery neighbours and early risers nearby,
we open at 9am just for you.
Come for a quiet breakfast in the morning calm.

A Menu Crafted for the Gallery Experience

Our National Gallery café carries a menu designed for both quiet mornings and lingering afternoons — simple, comforting food made with care. Here, we serve our classic viennoiseries, signature pastries, cakes and tarts, tartines and sandwiches, and even salads, all-day breakfast, comforting soups, as well as a full range of freshly brewed artisanal coffee, tea, and other beverages.

It’s familiar Brera warmth, thoughtfully adapted for the rhythm of a museum day.

And among everything we offer, one item holds a special place for us: the long-awaited Strawberry Rhubarb Tart, making its debut exclusively at the Gallery. For years, customers have been asking us to bring rhubarb back. We waited for the right moment — and this beautiful space felt like the perfect home for its return.

Bright, tart, and delicately balanced with fruit sweetness, this tart celebrates a classic beloved across Britain, the U.S., Australia, and New Zealand. To finally serve it here, in a café surrounded by art, culture, and community, feels just right.

A Space for Everyone

This outlet may look different from our original home, but the heart remains the same: to bring comfort, connection, and craft to every table.

From neighbourhood community spirit to the heartbeat of the city, we are grateful for this opportunity to serve a wider audience — locals, tourists, families, art lovers, working professionals, and everyone who simply needs a moment of solace.

Thank you for journeying with us.
We look forward to welcoming you at the Gallery.

With warmth,
Thrina
